Whether it is being a professional or semi-professional musician, performing music as a hobby, or simply enjoying and appreciating music and its various genres/styles, there is a place for music in everyone's life! Additionally, the positive attributes of a strong music education go beyond the factors of performance, enjoyment, and appreciation. According to recent studies, students that actively participate in the study of the arts consistently score higher on standardized tests. Despite this connection to higher test scores, there are countless, more significant advantages to students’ involvement in the arts. The study of the arts develops intuition, reasoning, imagination, and dexterity. In the music classroom, students learn a variety of ways to perceive and think, and learn to recognize that there can be more than one solution to a problem. These are all important qualities that our students’ future employers will desire in their employees. It is our belief as Music Specialists at Duncan Creek that the foundation we provide in the students' Music Special offers support and enrichment not only to the skills being taught, but also the learning habits that are necessary for success in the academic environment. All the while, it is a time for the students to merely have fun and enjoy themselves as children.
